Tuition fees

The tuition fees system at Sciences Po was reformed in the autumn of 2003. The Boards of Sciences Po adopted a number of technical adjustments in January 2005 after the new procedure was implemented, with the aim of making it more equitable.
NEW : On Wednesday 11th February 2009, the Governing Board of the Foundation Nationale des Sciences Politiques adopted the tuition fee levels for the academic year 2009-2010. You will notice that they have risen considerably; this comes in response to the institution’s ambitious development plan.

It is important to remember that these proposals affect only those students admitted to Sciences Po from the beginning of the 2009 academic year: the existing scale of tuition fees will be maintained until graduation for all students currently in the undergraduate cycle or in the graduate program.

For more information about the drafting of this reform, please consult this website.

  • Students in receipt of a bursary awarded on CROUS criteria, from level 0 to level 6, are exempted from tuition fees.

The tuition fees system distinguishes between two major categories of student:

  • students whose tax residence is in the European Union, who pay fees according to a sliding scale, from € 0 to 12 000/year depending on total declared income and the size of the household (each dependent child counts as a half-unit ("part") in the French system of tax relief based on number of dependents) and the level they apply for (Bachelor or Master).
  • students whose tax residence is not in the European Union must pay fees of € 5 450, 8 500 or 12 000/year. They may apply for bursaries amounting to between €5 450 and €11 450/year only if they have a non European Union nationality. Find out more about these bursaries.

Scope and principles of application

1. The tuition fees charged depend on the tax residence of the household on which the student is dependent rather than on his or her nationality.

2. This reform does not apply to programs leading solely to national diplomas (for students admitted to the PhD program and to programs leading to an accreditation to supervise research or “habilitation”). These students pay the national tuition fees fixed by the French Ministry of Education. Students enrolled in a dual program, in the Sciences Po Master's program and in a Research Master's program, pay the fees specific to the Sciences Po Master's and do not pay national fees for the Research Master's.

3. The conditions under which students can be recognized as being financially independent on their parents are identical to those applied by the CROUS.

  • Disabled students presenting a disability card are exempted from tuition fees. (For more information, consult the "Handicap Sciences Po" website), created to guide and facilitate the integration of disabled students at Sciences Po).
  • A social monitoring committee, composed of members of the Sciences Po boards, will examine individual cases submitted to it by students with a view to obtaining exemption from or adjustment of tuition fees. All Sciences Po students whose tax residence of the household is in the European Union are free to apply to the committee in July to notify it of their particular circumstances.
